The Panama-flagged vessel arrived from Singapore carrying a shipment of bulk slag ore imported from China, with a total cargo load of approximately 144,780 tonnes.
The YANG FAN, one of the world’s biggest bulk cargo vessels, measures 289 metres in length and 45 metres in width, with a draught of 16 metres.
The port authority said the successful reception of the vessel reflects the efficiency of Damietta Port’s upgraded infrastructure, navigational channel, and marine berths, as well as its ability to safely accommodate deep-draught vessels in line with international maritime standards.
Major General Tarek Adly Abdallah, chairman of the Damietta Port Authority, said the arrival of the vessel with such a record-breaking load demonstrates the success of the port’s comprehensive development plans implemented in recent years, including dredging and deepening the navigational channel, increasing berth depths, modernising marine services, and enhancing operational efficiency.
He also praised the port’s pilots, marine service crews, and mooring teams for their professional handling of the vessel’s guidance, towing, securing, and berthing operations, which enabled the ship to dock safely in record time despite its massive cargo and deep draught.
The authority added that unloading operations will be carried out using advanced equipment operated by Cisco Trans Logistics in coordination with the port authority and relevant entities to ensure high operational efficiency.
According to the statement, the achievement comes as part of the Transport Ministry’s broader strategy, led by Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, to modernize Egyptian ports and strengthen their competitiveness as part of efforts to position Egypt as a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.
