The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) dispatched its 197th Zad El-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza convoy early Sunday, carrying 3,961 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including food supplies, flour, medical equipment, relief materials, fuel, tents, mattresses, and clothing, to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the organization said.

The convoy, consisting of several aid trucks, was launched as part of the ERC’s role as Egypt’s national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

The ERC said the shipment included food baskets, flour, medical supplies, relief materials, and petroleum products to help operate hospitals and other vital facilities in the enclave, as well as clothing, mattresses, and tents for displaced residents.

The organization added that it has maintained a continuous presence at the border since the outbreak of the war, stressing that the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side has never been closed. It said all logistics centres remain on high alert to support the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

According to the ERC, total Egyptian humanitarian assistance delivered to the strip has now exceeded 980,000 tonnes, supported by more than 65,000 volunteers working across the country’s relief and logistics network.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical, according to the United Nations (UN) and international relief agencies.

Most of Gaza’s population of more than two million people has been displaced at least once during the war, with many living in overcrowded shelters or temporary camps.

Aid organizations continue to warn of worsening food insecurity, deteriorating sanitation conditions, and mounting risks of disease outbreaks amid extensive destruction to civilian infrastructure and healthcare facilities.
