In a statement, the foreign ministry reiterated Cairo's “steadfast and supportive position” toward Saudi Arabia in confronting any threats, stressing that the security of Gulf states remains “a fundamental pillar” of Egypt’s national security and regional stability.
It warned that such “blatant violations of international law” risk further complicating the regional situation and undermining ongoing efforts to de-escalate the situation across the Middle East.
The statement came after Saudi Arabia announced early Monday that its air defence forces had intercepted and destroyed three drones that entered the Kingdom’s airspace from Iraq, according to the Saudi defence ministry.
Saudi authorities said the drones were detected approaching sensitive areas in the Kingdom’s north and were neutralized before reaching their targets, with no casualties or damage reported.
The latest incident marks a further escalation in regional tensions amid the widening confrontation involving Iran and the Gulf countries.
Following the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran, multiple Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have repeatedly faced cross-border Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting their critical oil facilities, airports, and strategic infrastructure.
The attack also comes as regional and international actors intensify diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict and prevent a broader regional war, with Gulf countries remaining on high alert over potential spillover threats to energy infrastructure and maritime security.
The incident followed another drone attack in the Gulf on Sunday, when authorities in the United Arab Emirates reported that a strike caused a fire in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi. Emirati officials stated that emergency teams quickly contained the blaze, ensuring that operations at the facility were unaffected, with no injuries or radiation leaks reported.
Egypt condemned the UAE attack in a statement issued on Sunday, describing it as “a dangerous escalation” and “a flagrant violation” of the UAE’s sovereignty and international law, while reaffirming that the security of the UAE and Gulf states is “an integral part” of Egypt’s national security.
