During the event, Ambassador Dahroug reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at advancing the role of women across different sectors. He praised the role played by Egyptian institutions in promoting awareness of education, equality, and women’s empowerment.
The ambassador said the progress achieved by Egyptian women in recent years reflects clear political support that has placed women’s empowerment among the country’s top priorities. He pointed to efforts to increase women’s representation in executive and parliamentary positions, alongside the launch of national strategies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.
Dahroug noted that Egyptian women have secured significant representation in parliament, with women holding 25 percent of seats in the House of Representatives. He said this has strengthened women’s political participation and role in decision-making, placing Egypt among the leading countries in female parliamentary representation across the Arab and African regions.

The ambassador also highlighted Egypt’s celebration this year marking 200 years since the establishment of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, describing it as one of the world’s oldest diplomatic institutions. He stressed that Egyptian women have become key partners in diplomacy through the growing number of female diplomats and ambassadors representing Egypt internationally.
During his remarks, Dahroug reviewed the historical contributions of pioneers of Egypt’s women’s and educational movements, including Nabawiya Moussa, one of the earliest advocates of girls’ education and the first Egyptian woman to obtain the baccalaureate certificate, who dedicated her life to advancing women’s education and social empowerment.
He also highlighted the contributions of Mounira Thabet, one of the leading figures of Egypt’s feminist movement, who played a prominent role in defending women’s rights and advocating greater political and social participation for women through her writings and public activism
