The holiday will apply to employees in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public-sector companies, and state-owned business sector firms.

School examinations scheduled during the holiday period will continue according to timetables set by the relevant authorities, the decree said.

Eid Al-Adha, known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is one of the two major Islamic holidays and is observed annually in Egypt and across the Muslim world. The holiday coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage season and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

Egypt typically grants extended public holidays for Eid Al-Adha, one of the busiest travel and consumption periods of the year, with millions of Egyptians travelling to coastal destinations, visiting relatives, and increasing spending on food, livestock, and retail goods.

The holiday period usually leads to heightened activity across transport, tourism, and commercial sectors, while state institutions operate under emergency and service-continuity plans to manage traffic, healthcare, utilities, and supply chains.
