In a phone call, FM Abdelatty briefed his Austrian counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to contain conflicts, prevent further escalation, and support diplomatic solutions, according to a statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry.

He stressed the importance of backing US-Iran negotiations to help maintain regional security and stability, adding that Egypt continues to work closely with regional and international partners on these efforts.

He also emphasized the need to protect navigation in international waterways, describing it as essential to global economic stability and international trade.

Discussing the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty said the current regional tensions should not divert attention from implementing the components of the US president’s plan for Gaza. This includes deploying an international stabilization force, ensuring humanitarian aid enters Gaza without obstruction, and beginning the work of the Palestinian National Committee responsible for managing the territory.

On Lebanon, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon and rejected any violation of its sovereignty or territorial integrity. He also called for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without exception.

For her part, Meinl-Reisinger praised Egypt’s role, alongside regional and international partners, in efforts to reduce tensions in the region.

The two ministers agreed to continue strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating on regional and international issues through their existing political consultation mechanism. They also agreed to intensify efforts to ease tensions, stressing that diplomacy remains the best path to achieving security and stability in the region.
