Egyptian theatre director Mohamed Fouad Abdeen dies in Cairo

Egyptian theatre director and actor Mohamed Fouad Abdeen died on Tuesday after a prolonged battle with illness.

Abdeen was a stage director and performer, with a career that spanned between theatre and cinema.

He directed a number of theatrical productions, including Hal El-Dafayer and Al-Wad’ Sametan, and received the Best Theatre Director award for his play Qawaed Al-Eshq.

Alongside his work on stage, Abdeen appeared in supporting roles across television and cinema. His credits included the fourth season of the popular series Ragel w Set Setat, as well as Al-Qetta Al-Amya, Wesh Tani, and El-Zeibaq.

He was also featured in the second season of El-Le’ba.

In recent months the director suffered a health crisis that led to his hospitalization.

His Facebook page was filled with friends’ prayers for his recovery, as he was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Cairo.

Following his passing, Abdeen's body was transported to his home town Sohag where the funeral prayers and burial took place.
