The Egyptian Ministry of Culture launches the Art Street initiative in the heart of Downtown Cairo on Thursday. The street is more of a pedestrian triangle tucked between the architectural gems of the Central Bank of Egypt, the old premises of Egyptian Radio Broadcasting, and the Stock Market Museum.
Organized by the Egyptian Art Academy, the event starts in the early evening on Thursday, around 6 pm, with a heritage performance of Sandouq El Donia (Raree Show) by Professor Adel Nagi. Then a poetry recitation follows by members of the High Institute of Children's Art, then the Aragouz (Hand Puppet Show) in collaboration with Beit Al Sehemi.
At 7 pm, the Egyptian High Institute of Arts presents the musical Napolitan performance by Professor Osama Ali, followed by a singing performance by artist Lidia Farouk, then an opera performance and music by Hanien El Sayed and Omar Nagi. A one-week visual art and sculpture exhibition will be held alongside these events.
The initiative is the most recent in a series of efforts by the Ministry of Culture this year, beginning with a unique open-air art studio the National Organization for Urban Harmony (NOUH) organized in collaboration with the Cairo Governorate and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University. The event took place in January 2026 on the pavement of Al Sharifain Street in the heart of Downtown Cairo. It celebrated 1,056 years since the establishment of Cairo.
