The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, has issued a decree to form a high-level committee to oversee planning and organization for the event. The committee, which he will personally chair, is tasked with ensuring that the phenomenon is not only safely observed but also leveraged as a major tourism opportunity.
The initiative aims to deliver a seamless viewing experience for visitors expected to travel from around the world to witness the eclipse. Luxor, already renowned for its ancient temples and archaeological significance, is projected to become a focal point for global eclipse tourism.
The committee’s mandate includes coordinating logistics, organizing related events, and developing strategies to manage the anticipated surge in tourist arrivals. Special attention will be given to ensuring smooth movement in key viewing areas and avoiding overcrowding at prime observation sites.
The body brings together senior officials from across Egypt’s tourism and heritage sectors, including representatives from the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and the Federation of Tourism Chambers. It also includes stakeholders from aviation, customs, and security authorities, reflecting the cross-sector coordination required for an event of this scale.
