Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls on Tuesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss regional developments, particularly the ongoing US-Iran negotiations.

The discussions focused on the latest developments in the US-Iran negotiation track, with the three sides exchanging views on ways to advance the talks and support efforts to reach a mutually acceptable settlement that could help ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Abdelatty stressed during both calls the importance of maintaining momentum toward a negotiated solution to the crisis, according to a foreign ministry statement.

Additionally, he reaffirmed Egypt’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.

The foreign minister also underscored Egypt’s commitment to continuing its coordination with regional partners to help achieve a settlement that takes into account the concerns of all parties and contributes to regional security and stability.

The calls come as Washington and Tehran prepare for a fourth round of nuclear talks brokered by Oman, after three previous rounds yielded tentative progress. Significant differences remain on key issues, including uranium enrichment and sanctions relief.

Since the resumption of indirect US-Iran talks in April, Cairo has maintained close contact with all parties involved, including Iran, the United States, and Oman, which has been mediating the negotiations.

Egypt has continued to advocate sustained engagement and compromise as the best means of achieving a durable agreement and avoiding a wider conflict.
