Um Kalthoum Comes From New – El Sakia Puppet Theatre

El-Sawy Culturewheel, Wisdom Hall, 26th of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo

El-Sawy Culturewheel Puppet Theatre reenacts Umm Kalthoum’s live performances. The theatre troupe mimics the Arab diva’s singing and the movements of her orchestra players.

El Sakia first brought Umm Kalthoum to the stage in 2006 and has continued ever since.

The show is directed by its founder, Mohamed El-Sawy. 

Dark Noise Festival

Room Art Space & Café, 10 Etehad Al Mohamin St., Garden City, Cairo

This one-day music festival explores underground and alternative music genres in an intimate setting.

It focuses on black metal, drawing from a diverse lineup of rock musicians who make up “Egypt’s finest and most reputable metal bands,” according to Room Art Space.

Among the performers, we find the band Dashiem that plays classic black metal, Disgoat, which leans more towards speed metal, and Hellrider, which is more punk.

Finally, there’s Beyond East, which defines itself as progressive oriental gothic black metal.

Zaid Khaled

Jordanian-Palestinian artist Zaid Khaled blends alternative Arabic pop with electronic music and hints of 80s and 90s Arab pop. He has drawn attention for his creativity and eccentric style.

He first rose to attention with his debut album Tayarat O Sayarat in 2021, and has since released three additional albums. His latest single, Khody Hena, came out on 5 May.

Ramy Sabry

Ramy Sabry rose to fame in 2005 with the release of his debut album Habiby Al Awalany.

Since then, he has released eight albums, one EP, and compilations of his live performances across the Middle East.

Sabry's emotional and romantic songs have garnered him a massive fanbase thanks to chart-topping hits such as Ymken Kher, Hayati Msh Tamam, and Seket Leh.

In 2020, Forbes Magazine stated he was one of the most-streamed Arab artists on platforms such as Anghami and Deezer.

Youssra El Hawary's Taraddud Launch

Youssra El-Hawary will perform her EP Taraddud, which came out in 2025, at the French Institute.

Singer-songwriter, accordionist, and sound designer, El-Hawary rose to fame in 2012 with her song El-Soor (The Wall), which discussed the large walls erected in downtown Cairo by the Egyptian military.

Taraddud is her first release since her debut album No’oum Nasyeen came out in 2017.

This EP creates a lyrical portrait of Cairo by combining field recordings of the city with her original music.

It also features El-Hawary as a producer for the first time, and without a fixed formation of her band.

Andrea Bocelli

Originally scheduled for 26 May, the concert was postponed due to the singer’s illness, so it is now set for 5 June.

The concert is part of Bocelli’s international tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his breakthrough album, Romanza (1997), which remains his most commercially successful compilation, topping charts throughout Europe and Latin America.

The tenor has previously performed in the country at the Giza Plateau, singing against the backdrop of the pyramids and the Sphinx.

His first appearance was in August 2003, accompanied by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. He returned in September 2010, performing again with Egyptian musicians, drawing large audiences and international attention.

Bolivian-Polish conductor Ruben Silva will present works from Mikhail Glinka, Henri Vieuxtemps, and Franz Schubert.

The event will also feature solo violinist Yasser El Serafi.

Silva is currently the Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Kalisz Philharmonic in Poland.

He has performed with most of the major Polish symphony orchestras and conducted orchestras all over the world, including European countries, Japan, Lebanon, and South America.

In 2012, he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his lifetime artistic achievements.

Mohamed Ezz
Sunday 7 June, 8pm
El-Sawy Culturewheel, River Hall,  26th of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo

Ezz is primarily known for his work as an actor, especially in action films such as Karmouz War, and more recently, in In Broad Daylight, which came out in 2025.

He’s also starred in the television series Till the Last Breath in 2019 and Alhisan al’aswad in 2017.

Standup Comedy
Thursday, 9 June, 8pm
Cairo Jazz Club 610, Sheikh Zayed

This event brings together four of Egypt’s rising stand-up voices, featuring Adham Enawy, Ahmed Emad, Khaled Elshoky, and Omar Kintaki.

The night’s theme is relatability, and jokes will be centered on everyday life, relationships, work, and family.
