Egypt sends food, fuel and medical aid to Gaza in 209th convoy

The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) dispatched its 209th "Zad Al-Izza" convoy to the Gaza Strip on Sunday, carrying 3,139 tons of humanitarian aid, including food, flour, medical supplies, relief materials, fuel, clothing, and tents for Palestinians, the organization said.

The convoy, comprising several trucks bound for Gaza, was launched as part of the ERC's role as Egypt's national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian assistance to the territory.

According to the ERC, the shipment included charity meat, food baskets, flour, medical supplies, relief materials, and petroleum products needed to operate hospitals and other vital facilities in the war-ravaged strip.

The organization said it had also expanded support for displaced Palestinians by providing essential items, including clothing and tents for families affected by the ongoing conflict.

The ERC added that it has maintained a permanent presence at the border since the start of the war, stressing that the Rafah crossing has never been closed from the Egyptian side. It said its teams remain on full alert across all logistics hubs while continuing efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

More than 65,000 volunteers are currently supporting the ERC's humanitarian operations, according to the organization.

The dispatch of the latest convoy comes as Egyptian-mediated efforts to sustain the Gaza ceasefire continue. A senior Hamas delegation headed by Khalil Al-Hayya, the group's leader in Gaza, arrived in Cairo on Friday evening for a new round of negotiations aimed at advancing the ceasefire agreement and discussing the next phase of the deal.

According to Hamas, the delegation includes Zaher Jabarin, head of the movement in the occupied West Bank, along with Political Bureau members Hossam Badran and Ghazi Hamad.

Egypt, alongside Qatar and the United States, has maintained its central mediating role between Israel and Hamas to negotiate a durable ceasefire and facilitate critical humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

Since the outbreak of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Egypt, in coordination with the United Nations and international partners, has led extensive efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged territory despite ongoing restrictions on access.
