EgyptAir returns to the IATA board after a six-year absence, regaining a seat in global aviation decision-making
The election took place on the sidelines of the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 6 to 8 June 2026.
Captain Ahmed Adel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EgyptAir Holding Company, was elected to the IATA Board of Governors as a representative of the Middle East and North Africa region.
The appointment reflects EgyptAir’s standing within the global air transport community and restores the national carrier’s presence at one of the aviation industry’s most influential decision-making platforms.
The achievement marks the culmination of the Ministry of Civil Aviation's efforts to strengthen Egypt’s presence within international aviation organizations and reinforce the country’s influential role in the regional and global air transport industry.
Ahmed Adel expressed pride in the achievement, describing EgyptAir’s election to the IATA Board as international recognition of the national carrier's role.
He said the result reflects IATA members' confidence in Egyptian expertise, capabilities, and ability to contribute effectively to shaping the future of global aviation.
He added that regaining the seat is an important opportunity to enhance cooperation with member airlines. EgyptAir's return to the board, according to Adel, supports initiatives to advance the industry and address global challenges.
IATA is the leading global association representing airlines worldwide, with more than 370 member carriers accounting for the vast majority of international air traffic.
IATA's Board of Governors is responsible for setting the organization’s strategic direction and overseeing key issues, including sustainability, digital transformation, safety standards, and operational efficiency.
