Sirens sounded across northern Israel, and the Israeli army claimed it intercepted all the missiles.
Iran’s state broadcaster confirmed the missile launches, while multiple explosions were heard across northern Israel.
Reports indicated at least three missile salvos were launched.
The attacks came after Iran’s military central command said Israel’s latest strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs had "crossed all red lines" and demanded a halt to Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
"The Israeli army must stop its attacks on southern Lebanon and the suburbs, and if it expands its attacks to that region or responds to Iran's action, it will face more devastating and regrettable blows," said General Ali Abollahi, head of the Khatam al-Anbiya command.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted the Iranian and Lebanese flags on X without comment, signaling the strikes were in direct retaliation for Israel’s attack on Beirut’s Dahiyeh district earlier on Sunday, Drop Site News reported.
In Tel Aviv, senior Israeli offiicals told Channel 12 News, that Israel will “respond forcefully” to Iran’s missile attacks.
Israel “cannot allow” an equation whereby Iran fires on Israel after it targets Hezbollah positions in Beirut, the report said.
There has been no official Israeli response to the barrages so far, according to Israeli media, which noted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials were expected to hold a security assessment shortly.
Israel canceled schools nationwide and limited outdoor gatherings to 200 people and indoor gatherings to 500 as the Home Front Command issued emergency guidelines.
Trump, speaking to Fox News amid the Iranian missile strikes targeting northern Israel, urged Tehran to stand down and return to negotiations, Drop Site added.
“What I would suggest to Iran: You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal,” Trump told Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst.
The strikes mark a major escalation following Israel’s resumption of attacks on Beirut. Iran had warned of retaliation after Israel struck Beirut’s southern suburbs without warning, defying Washington’s request to stand down. Israel said the strike was in response to Hezbollah fire on northern Israel earlier in the day.
Israel’s attack on Beirut came days after the Lebanese and Israeli governments agreed to a ceasefire in U.S.-hosted talks, though Hezbollah rejected the deal. The strike on a residential building killed two people and wounded 20, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
Iran had previously warned that an attack on Beirut would renew full-scale war across the Middle East, even as Pakistan attempts to restart talks between Tehran and Washington.
Tehran has repeatedly insisted that any agreement to end the broader conflict must also include an end to the war in Lebanon.
