Tues 16, 10am – 11am (Online event): “Resisting Cognitive Offloading in the Age of AI” Generative Artificial Intelligence exploded in 2022 with the release of ChatGPT. This talk by Leon Furze, examines the research and evidence, exploring whether using AI leads to negative effects like so-called "cognitive atrophy" and cognitive offload among others issues. Furze, PhD is a best-selling author and consultant with over fifteen years' experience in secondary and tertiary education. His PhD focused on the implications of Generative Artificial Intelligence for teachers.

Tues 16, 7.30pm: The Cervantes Institute, in cooperation with Peru embassy in Cairo, is organizing a series of activities to honor the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa (1936 - 2025), a leading figure in Spanish-language literature and winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature. These activities include a meeting with the contemporary Peruvian writer Santiago Roncagliolo, one of the most important names on the Peruvian literary scene today, who was influenced by Llosa’s style. This meeting will feature Mohamed Moaz, Professor of Literature at Kafr El-Sheikh University, and will be conducted in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic.

Sat 13, 10am-6pm: Goethe Institute, in partnership with San3a Tech and Fab Lab Egypt, presents an open day titled “The Maker Experience 2026”. This day aims to celebrate creativity, sustainability, and community exchange. For the first time, the event brings together the Goethe Makercast podcast series in an interactive format, which has highlighted influential voices within the maker movement in Egypt and across the Middle East and North Africa.
The event will conclude with an open discussion moderated by Omar El-Safty, CEO of Fab Lab Egypt / San3a Tech. The discussion will explore how makers document and share their work, as well as the role of different forms of content—such as blogs, tutorials, short videos, and social media—in supporting knowledge exchange and expanding reach.

Thurs 18, 6pm: “Egyptian Perceptions of Antiquities (1869–1925): A Justification for Marginalization?” lecture is the 18th session of the seminar series 'Exploring Egypt: Histories and Historiographies', a joint initiative of the Ifao, DAIK, CAI, PCMA, NVIC, and ARCE. It will feature Professor Azza Ezzat. This lecture examines Egyptian perceptions of antiquities between 1869 and 1925 under foreign control, questioning whether such perceptions were used as a justification for the marginalization of Egyptians within the field of Egyptology. Ezzat is currently the Head of the Research and Publication Section at the Writing and Scripts Centre, Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Sun 14, 6.30pm – 8pm: “Refugees Return from Egypt: Legal Frameworks, Historical Contexts and Contemporary Practices” engaging lecture is presented by the Centre for Migration and Refugee Studies at the AUC. This presentation analyzes the return process and its historical context in Egypt, as well as the legal framework governing repatriation under both the 1951 Convention and Egypt's Asylum Law No. 164 of 2024. Speaker Ashraf Milad Ruxi is an Expert Group Member of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and currently practices as an asylum lawyer in Cairo.
