CDA Silverman also attended a ceremony to open a major expansion of the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Alexandria; he signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the US government to formalize an American Corner hosted by the educational foundation Amideast in their Alexandria headquarters.
The American Corner is a library and information resource open to the public, staffed by US employees. It is a tangible example of the US commitment to engaging with the people of Alexandria.
While in Alexandria, CDA Silverman met with religious leaders representing Alexandria’s minority communities. He also visited the Graeco-Roman Museum and Bibliotheca Alexandrina, two major cultural institutions with ties to the U.S. government.
“Alexandria is the largest city on the Mediterranean Sea, with a long history of trade that for centuries attracted peoples from all over the region. Today this city and Egypt’s northern coast is becoming the energy hub of the eastern Mediterranean, making it a natural partner for American businesses,” said Silverman.
“My wife and I look forward to returning to visit the 'Bride of the Mediterranean' soon, to build on the excellent economic and cultural ties between our two countries,” he added.
