The mechanism, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, held its first meeting in Riyadh on 20 March.
The two sides emphasized the importance of coordination among the four countries. They stressed the need to continue political and diplomatic efforts to contain the current escalation and to complete the US-Iran negotiation track to reach mutually acceptable understandings that would reduce tensions, end the war, and support regional stability.
Furthermore, Abdelatty and Dar underscored the importance of diplomatic solutions to prevent the conflict from expanding and to contain the current escalation, given the serious security, economic, and geopolitical consequences the war has had for the region and the world.
Since the US and Israel launched their war on Iran on 28 February, Egypt has intensified diplomatic efforts, in cooperation with regional partners, to de-escalate the conflict, positioning itself as a central mediator between Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan is leading negotiations between the US and Iran aimed at a permanent end to the war.
