According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty stressed the importance Egypt attaches to implementing the AfCFTA agreement, describing it as one of the continent's most significant integration projects.
The minister underscored the need to continue efforts to remove barriers to trade and investment among African countries.
He noted that the agreement offers significant opportunities to increase intra-African trade and commercial exchanges, thus supporting sustainable development goals and the African Union's Agenda 2063.
The call also reviewed ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the AfCFTA Secretariat and build on Cairo's support for continental economic integration efforts.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's contributions to Africa's development agenda through its expertise in trade and development.
He pointed to the training and capacity-building programmes Egypt offered to African countries to support economic integration and sustainable growth across the continent.
For his part, Mene praised Egypt's active role in advancing economic integration in Africa and its contributions in promoting the implementation of the free trade agreement and expanding intra-African trade.
The AfCFTA secretary-general also expressed his aspiration to continue close cooperation with Egypt in the coming period to help achieve development and prosperity goals for member states.
The AfCFTA, which entered into force in 2019, aims to create the world's largest free trade area by number of participating countries, bringing together 54 African nations in a single market for goods and services and promoting deeper economic integration across the continent.
