Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis as part of ongoing coordination between the two countries on bilateral relations and regional developments, according to a statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
Both ministers praised the depth of Egyptian–Greek relations and welcomed the continued development of ties following their upgrade to a strategic partnership.
They also stressed the importance of expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, while highlighting Greece’s support for Egypt within European Union institutions.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments, with Abdelatty outlining Egypt's intensive diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation and advance diplomatic solutions, including the US-Iran negotiations. Gerapetritis, in turn, praised Cairo's role in fostering regional stability and easing tensions.
Libya featured prominently in the discussions, where the two sides underscored the importance of preserving the country’s unity and sovereignty and supporting efforts to unify its institutions.
Egypt reiterated its consistent position, calling for a comprehensive Libyan-led political process. It stressed the need for a settlement that reflects the aspirations of the Libyan people and paves the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
Both ministers agreed on the importance of continued coordination and consultation in light of the strategic relations between Cairo and Athens, and in support of broader efforts to reduce tensions across the region.
