Addressing the gathering, Russian Chargé d'Affaires Yuri Matveev described Egypt and Russia as long-standing strategic partners and said cooperation between the two countries continued to expand across several sectors.

Matveev pointed to the construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant at El-Dabaa by Russia's state-owned Rosatom as one of the flagship projects in bilateral relations. He said trade between the two countries had continued to grow and noted increasing cooperation in science, education, culture and sports.

The Russian diplomat also said Moscow and Cairo shared similar positions on a number of international and regional issues and stressed what he described as the need for a more balanced multipolar world order.

Speaking about global affairs, Matveev said Russia would continue to defend its security and national interests despite what he described as external pressure and sanctions. He criticized NATO policies and accused Ukraine of targeting civilians, citing a drone strike on a student residence in the city of Starobilsk.

Matveev said Moscow valued the support of countries in the Global South, which he said shared Russia's vision of a more balanced international system.

He added that close ties between the Russian and Egyptian peoples remained a cornerstone of bilateral relations and would support further cooperation in the future.
