The talks come amid renewed diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and establish post-war governance arrangements, while violence and settlement activity continue to fuel tensions in the occupied West Bank.
According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khalaf, the two officials reviewed efforts to ensure the full and sustained delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza and discussed the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the implementation of a ceasefire and facilitate access to aid.
They also discussed enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to begin operating from within the territory until the Palestinian Authority resumes its full responsibilities, a step Cairo views as necessary to support stability and advance subsequent phases of a broader political settlement.
The call also addressed developments in the occupied West Bank, where Abdelatty condemned the escalation in Israeli settlement activity and continued violations in East Jerusalem and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
He warned that such actions could undermine prospects for peace and stability in the region.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's longstanding support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also stressed the importance of empowering the PA to carry out its responsibilities and preserving the territorial unity of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, describing both objectives as essential to achieving a just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.
For his part, Al-Sheikh expressed appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting the Palestinian cause and its continued efforts to halt escalation, achieve calm, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of Palestinians, according to the statement.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination and consultations with Egypt during the coming period.
The call comes as Egypt continues intensive mediation efforts aimed at advancing the Gaza ceasefire process.
Earlier this month, a senior Hamas delegation led by Khalil Al-Hayya arrived in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials and mediators to implement the first phase of the ceasefire agreement and discuss arrangements for the next stage.
The delegation included senior Hamas officials Zaher Jabarin, Hossam Badran, and Ghazi Hamad. Egypt, alongside Qatar and the United States, has played a central role in efforts to sustain the ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries, and advance discussions on post-war governance in Gaza.
Egyptian officials have also proposed deploying an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to oversee ceasefire arrangements and support security and governance during a transitional period. Cairo maintains that preserving the unity of Gaza and the West Bank under a single Palestinian administration is essential to any sustainable political settlement.
