Egypt sends 1,997 tons of aid to Gaza in 215th convoy
The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) dispatched its 215th Zad Al-Izza aid convoy to Gaza early on Wednesday, carrying 1,997 tons of humanitarian assistance, including food, flour, medical supplies, relief materials, and fuel, as Egypt continues its efforts to support Palestinians amid the ongoing war, the organization said.
The convoy, consisting of several trucks, headed to the Gaza Strip as part of the ERC's role as Egypt's national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian aid deliveries to the territory.
In addition to food and medical assistance, the shipment included clothing and tents to help meet the basic needs of displaced Palestinians.
The ERC said it has maintained a presence at the border since the start of the Gaza war and that the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side has never been closed.
It added that its teams remain on high alert across its logistics centres to facilitate the flow of aid into Gaza.
According to the organization, humanitarian assistance delivered through its efforts since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza has exceeded 1 million tons, with support from more than 65,000 volunteers nationwide.
The latest dispatch comes as Israeli occupation forces continue operations across Gaza, where troops control more than 60 percent of the territory and have expanded military zones in eastern Khan Younis, northern Rafah, and parts of Gaza City.
The expansion follows orders by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to increase Israeli control to 70 percent of the territory, beyond the areas originally envisaged under the October ceasefire arrangement.
Nearly all of Gaza's population has been displaced at least once during the Israeli genocidal war and now lives in overcrowded coastal areas, damaged buildings, or makeshift tent camps amid a critical lack of food, fuel, and medical supplies.
Meanwhile, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey continue mediation efforts in Cairo to advance the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire and reconstruction plan.
