Air Cairo receives first direct flight from Yerevan to New Alamein

Air Cairo has launched direct flights between Armenia and Egypt’s Mediterranean resort city of New Alamein, with the airline receiving its first service from the Armenian capital, Yerevan, this week.

The inaugural flight landed at New Alamein International Airport, carrying tourists from Armenia, adding a new route aimed at attracting visitors to Egypt’s northern coast.

The state-owned carrier currently operates one weekly flight every Wednesday between Yerevan and New Alamein and said it could increase capacity depending on demand.

Air Cairo Chairman and CEO Hussein Sherif said the route was introduced in response to growing interest from the Armenian market and forms part of the airline’s wider expansion plans.

He said the carrier is studying additional international destinations as it seeks to expand its network and increase inbound tourism to Egypt.

New Alamein, a newly built city on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, has become a focus of government efforts to promote tourism and investment outside traditional destinations such as Cairo, Luxor, and the Red Sea resorts.

The new connection also reflects growing demand for travel to Egypt’s coastal cities from European and regional markets.

Air Cairo has been expanding its international operations in recent years, adding destinations and increasing frequencies on several routes as it seeks to strengthen its position among Egypt’s national carriers.
