The incident prompted an official response from Athens, with the Foreign Ministry stressing that the individuals concerned had complied with all entry requirements and had clearly stated the purpose of their visit before being denied entry.
“We express our dissatisfaction with the Israeli authorities over the denial of entry and subsequent deportation of Greek citizens, representatives of labour unions, whose final destination was Ramallah, following an invitation from the Palestinian side,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry noted that the Greek citizens had fulfilled all legal requirements for entering the country and had fully disclosed the purpose of their trip to the relevant authorities.
The statement reflects growing concern in Athens over the treatment of Greek nationals travelling to the Palestinian territories and underscores the Greek government’s expectation that its citizens be treated in accordance with international norms and established procedures.
