The Cairo-Chicago route is the second direct US destination launched by EgyptAir in 2026, following the introduction of flights to Los Angeles.
The move is part of the airline’s strategy to enhance air links between Egypt and key international markets and meet growing demand for travel between the two countries.
Captain Ahmed Adel, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding Company, said the launch of the Cairo-Chicago route represents an important step in the airline’s growth and development plan for 2026.
He said the new route strengthens EgyptAir’s role as a national carrier supporting efforts to boost travel and tourism and connect Egypt with global markets.
Adel added that the new destination increases EgyptAir’s network in the United States to five destinations, while the total number of destinations in North America reaches six with the addition of Toronto, Canada. He said this reflects confidence in EgyptAir’s services and its ability to compete in international markets.
Adel also said flights to both Chicago and Los Angeles will be operated using the Airbus A350-900, the newest aircraft in EgyptAir’s fleet.
The aircraft offers improved operational efficiency and modern technologies that enhance the passenger experience on long-haul flights, as part of EgyptAir’s fleet modernization plan and efforts to improve sustainability and efficiency.
Captain Mohamed Elyan, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Airlines, said the company will operate three weekly flights to Chicago on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
He added that the launch of the new route builds on the success of EgyptAir’s Los Angeles service, which also operates three times a week.
The two routes are expected to see strong demand and contribute to commercial and cultural ties, while supporting travel and tourism between the two countries and strengthening EgyptAir’s role as a link between Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.
EgyptAir welcomed passengers on the inaugural flight in the presence of a delegation from the US embassy in Cairo and Major General Ismail Safwat, head of the Security Sector at EgyptAir Holding Company.
The airline also organized activities for passengers on the flight, creating a welcoming atmosphere to celebrate the addition of a new destination in the Americas and highlight EgyptAir’s role in supporting travel, tourism, and trade between Egypt and the world.
The first flight arrived at Chicago O’Hare International Airport after a journey of more than 12 hours. It was welcomed by Mr Ahmed Saad, EgyptAir’s Chicago office manager, the regional EgyptAir team, and several officials from Chicago Airport.
