The operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national security and protect the country's economic resources and development gains, according to a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces.
The raids resulted in the arrest of 223 suspects, including 87 Egyptians and 136 foreign nationals. Security forces also seized 14 vehicles, wireless communication devices, cash in Egyptian and foreign currencies, as well as quantities of unlicensed weapons and ammunition.
Authorities further confiscated large amounts of equipment used in illegal mining activities and apprehended a number of infiltrators who were found in the country without valid residency documents.
The suspects and seized items have been referred to the competent judicial authorities for legal action in accordance with international conventions and humanitarian law standards, the statement said.
The military added that, as the operation got underway, a number of individuals who had entered Egypt illegally surrendered themselves to security checkpoints and positions. They were subsequently repatriated to their home countries after receiving appropriate humanitarian assistance.
According to the statement, the targeted criminal hubs had been exploited by organized networks engaged in a range of illicit activities that posed a direct threat to national security, while also undermining economic stability, investment prospects, and sustainable development efforts.
The Armed Forces stated that law enforcement units will continue intensive field operations to eliminate criminal hotspots, pursue outlaws, and strengthen border security.
The statement stressed that Egypt retains all available options to confront threats and possesses the capability to protect its territory and national resources under all circumstances.
