The campaign engaged students in the governorates of Kafr El Sheikh, Gharbeya, and Dakahleya, raising awareness of water conservation, efficient water use, and sustainable environmental practices.
It also highlighted the role of students as ambassadors for responsible water management, encouraging schools and local communities to adopt practical measures to protect water resources.
The initiative is part of the wider Kitchener Drain Depollution Programme, a joint effort backed by the EBRD, the European Union, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to improve environmental conditions and living standards for around six million residents in the Nile Delta.
The programme’s closing event will bring together representatives from the EBRD, the EU, and Egyptian government institutions to present the campaign’s results and engage with participating communities.
The event will feature student-led activities, presentations on the campaign’s outcomes, and interactive performances designed to reinforce key messages on water conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
Speakers include Mark Davis, managing director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region at the EBRD, alongside representatives from the EU delegation to Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
The gathering will also provide a platform for government and development partners to engage with local communities and highlight the importance of sustainable water management in Egypt.
Egypt has been a founding member of the EBRD, which has invested more than 14.6 billion euros in 227 projects across the country since 2012.
