The court referred the defendant's papers to Egypt's Grand Mufti for a non-binding religious opinion ahead of a final verdict, a mandatory step in capital cases under Egyptian law.
The court also scheduled sentencing for next month and ordered the continued detention of a second defendant, a school gardener accused of assisting in the crimes.
According to the Public Prosecution's investigation, the case dates back to November, when police in Alexandria's Montaza district received complaints alleging that two employees at an international school had assaulted several children on the school's premises.
Investigators said the defendants exploited their positions at the school to isolate and assault several children in areas away from supervision and surveillance cameras.
The prosecution accused the first defendant of committing multiple assaults against young pupils, while the second defendant allegedly assisted him by facilitating the crimes and helping conceal them.
The child victims later identified the two defendants during official legal procedures, while police investigations supported the allegations, according to court documents.
Following its investigation and the testimony of the victims and witnesses, the Public Prosecution referred the defendants to the Alexandria Criminal Court, which issued the ruling on Wednesday.
