According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, passenger numbers are expected to reach 266,593 this year, up from 169,541 in 2025, while aircraft movements are projected to increase by 26 percent to 3,193 flights, up from 2,542 flights in 2025.
The ministry said the strong growth comes as New Alamein attracts more tourism, investment, and business activity, prompting ongoing upgrades to the airport's infrastructure and operational capacity.
Alamein International Airport is also preparing to host the second edition of the Egypt International Airshow (EIAS 2026), scheduled for September, in coordination with the Ministry of Defence, the Egyptian Air Force, and the Egyptian Space Agency.
The number of airlines operating at the airport has risen to 15, including Etihad Airways, flydubai, Flynas, Air Cairo, and Saudi Airlines, reflecting growing demand for flights to Egypt's North Coast destination.
With the launch of the 2026 summer season, the airport has also welcomed new services by TAROM of Romania, Poland's Enter Air, Bulgaria Air, and Gulf Air.
The ministry expects the number of airlines serving the airport to rise to around 26 by the end of the summer season.
Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Elhefny said the airport's performance reflects the state's vision of transforming New Alamein into a global hub for tourism, business, and investment.
"The rapid growth in passenger numbers and flights reflects increasing confidence in the Egyptian destination and the efficiency of the country's modern aviation infrastructure," Elhefny said.
He added that the ministry is implementing a comprehensive development plan to prepare the airport for future growth, particularly ahead of hosting the Egypt International Airshow 2026.
The airport's expansion includes reorganizing terminal space to increase passenger capacity and improve passenger flow, adding mobile check-in counters, expanding the departure hall, upgrading baggage-claim belts in the arrivals area, and modernizing the baggage-handling system.
Elhefny said hosting the second edition of the Egypt International Airshow underscores Egypt's growing position in the regional and global aviation and space industries while creating new opportunities for international partnerships, investment, and technology transfer.
The airport upgrades form part of the Ministry of Civil Aviation's broader strategy to modernize Egypt's airports in line with international standards. They also support the country's goal of attracting 30 million tourists annually by 2030 while strengthening its position as a regional hub for aviation, tourism, and investment.
