Egypt braces for week-long heatwave starting Monday

Egypt is bracing for a week of intense, humid heat starting Monday, with feels-like temperatures expected to reach 37°C in Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta, and top 40°C across the south.

According to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority's (EMA) latest bulletin, residents across most of the country should expect intense daytime heat accompanied by high humidity, while coastal areas will see slightly cooler but still hot and muggy conditions.

Nighttime temperatures are forecast to remain moderate, accompanied by humidity, except in southern Upper Egypt, where warmer overnight conditions are expected.

The EMA cautioned that high humidity will make temperatures feel 1°C to 2°C higher than actual shade readings.

Motorists were also put on alert for morning fog forming between 4am and 8am on major routes, including roads linking Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, Central Sinai, and Northern Upper Egypt.

Intermittent winds are expected across the country throughout the week, as temperatures peak in southern Upper Egypt, where mercury could hit 44°C by Friday.

The authority urged the public to follow official updates as conditions develop.
