Saleh added that vacation homes should feel like a natural extension of their surroundings rather than a separate element. For this reason, he recommends using colours inspired by sand and the sea, along with natural materials such as stone and live plants throughout the design.
He also noted that modern design trends focus on freeing the space rather than filling it. Leaving carefully planned empty areas allows the eye to rest and enhances the sense of openness and calm.
The impact of colours and motifs cannot be fully achieved without selecting the right materials. Designers recommend using natural materials or alternatives that closely mimic nature.
Light-toned natural wood remains a top choice, along with synthetic rattan for outdoor furniture and breathable cotton and linen fabrics that can withstand summer use.
Modern designs are also increasingly incorporating natural stone and outdoor porcelain flooring, which offer an elegant appearance while providing strong resistance to heat and humidity.

Saleh noted that one of the most common mistakes in vacation home design is the excessive use of marine-themed elements such as seashells, boats, and blue decorations, which can make a space feel outdated and visually crowded. He also advised against relying heavily on dark colours.
