The ministry said the service was activated in coordination with the Ministry of Interior to facilitate consular services for Egyptians overseas and expand electronic consular transactions.
Applicants must have a valid passport or national ID card to request the certificate through the portal.
The certificate may be collected by one of the applicant’s first-degree relatives or by a person holding an official power of attorney, the ministry added.
It will be available for pickup at the headquarters of the General Department for Criminal Evidence Investigation in Abbasiya Square, Cairo.
The move is part of a wider push by the foreign ministry to modernize consular services for Egyptians abroad.
The ministry had expanded authentication offices to 27 nationwide, issued nearly three million authentications and around 125,000 passports, and was preparing to launch a pilot electronic authentication platform.
The ministry has also placed greater emphasis on direct communication with Egyptians overseas, establishing hotlines at diplomatic and consular missions, as well as a central consular hotline to handle inquiries and emergencies.
The new criminal record service also fits into Egypt’s broader digital transformation strategy.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology describes Digital Egypt as the national framework for shifting toward a digitally enabled economy and modern public administration, including the redesign of government services for online delivery and the use of electronic payments and digital identification tools.
Previously, criminal status certificates for Egyptians abroad were processed through diplomatic missions.
The foreign ministry’s consular guidance says the certificate is valid for three months, with missions completing the initial procedures before sending the documents to the General Department for Criminal Evidence Investigation via diplomatic pouch, a process that can take about a month or longer.
The ministry has also urged Egyptians abroad to rely on official channels when seeking consular help, including embassy and consulate WhatsApp hotlines and the central consular WhatsApp hotline.
The service comes amid continued government efforts to expand services targeting Egyptians abroad.
