The releases were carried out under a recent presidential pardon decree, granting pardons to eligible inmates who had met the legal conditions for early release.
The ministry said specialized committees within the Community Protection Sector reviewed inmates' files to ensure they satisfied all legal requirements and had completed rehabilitation and reform programs in line with the ministry's modern correctional policy.
The Interior Ministry said expanding the use of presidential pardons forms part of its broader strategy to promote rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Egypt traditionally grants presidential pardons to eligible inmates on major national and religious holidays.
