On 30 June 2013, millions of Egyptians poured into the streets nationwide. United in their rejection of the Muslim Brotherhood’s growing concentration of power and then president Mohamed Morsi, the protesters voiced deep concerns over political exclusion, weakening state institutions, economic deterioration, and the potential erosion of Egypt’s national identity.
The historic demonstrations culminated on 3 July with the announcement of a transformative political roadmap. Marking the occasion, President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi addressed the nation on social media on Tuesday, describing the uprising as an “immortal national epic” that embodied the collective will to preserve the state’s civil character.
“This revolution will always remain a symbol of Egyptians’ unity, their ability to face challenges, and their determination to build a strong, modern state,” Al-Sisi stated.
In the 13 years since that fateful day, Egypt has navigated a complex path towards stabilisation. Central to restoring domestic security was the country’s success in combating terrorism in the immediate post-revolution years. This newfound stability laid the groundwork for an ambitious era of national development, triggering an expansive overhaul of strategic infrastructure, major investments in transportation and energy, and an overall improvement in key macroeconomic indicators.
The journey has not been without challenges. Over the past 13 years, Egypt’s economy has weathered repeated shocks from regional and global crises, geopolitical tensions, a pandemic, supply chain disruptions, inflationary pressures, and external uncertainty.
Yet the country has pressed ahead with economic reform, expanded strategic infrastructure, and reinforced resilience in an increasingly volatile environment. Marking the anniversary, President Al‑Sisi renewed his pledge to the public, affirming the state’s full commitment to this path.
“We renew our vow to our loyal people to continue building, safeguarding the nation’s constants, and enhancing its capabilities,” he said, framing the ongoing development drive as the cornerstone of security, stability, and progress in Egypt’s New Republic.
