According to the report, talks have progressed over the past few days on a deal that could be worth up to 3 million euros ($3.5 million).
The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims, where he made 12 appearances and provided two assists before returning to Nantes at the end of his loan spell.
Nantes were relegated to Ligue 2 after finishing second from bottom in the Ligue 1 standings last season.
Ahly are seeking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign after a disappointing season in which the Cairo club failed to win any major trophies.
