The agreement was signed during Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir's visit to Turkey to participate in the Turkish Maritime Summit, where he held talks with Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu on expanding bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics.
According to Egypt's Transport Ministry, the MoU seeks to maximize the use of strategic trade routes, including the Middle Corridor and Iraq's Development Road project, improve transit transport efficiency, and explore new transport routes in cooperation with neighbouring countries to strengthen regional and international connectivity.
El-Wazir described the agreement as "a starting point" for broader cooperation between Egypt and Turkey in international transport corridors, maritime transport and logistics, stressing that transport integration has become a necessity amid global supply chain disruptions and growing development demands.
He also called for closer cooperation between Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia in maritime transport and railways to increase trade volumes and achieve greater regional integration.
El-Wazir highlighted Egypt's railway projects, including the Arish-Taba line, and said discussions covered linking Egypt to the historic Hejaz railway network, with technical committees tasked with studying the proposal.
The two sides also discussed potential cooperation in commercial shipbuilding.
During the meeting, El-Wazir said Egypt's strategy to transform into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade has significantly expanded the country's transport infrastructure and enhanced regional connectivity.
He also reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to support Turkish investments in the country.
For his part, Uraloğlu said the MoU provides the overarching framework for connecting Turkey, Egypt and Arab countries through integrated transport networks.
He also highlighted opportunities to cooperate on exporting Turkish goods to African markets through Egypt, describing the country as a key gateway to the continent.
El-Wazir noted that Egypt already operates several logistics zones across Africa that could support such cooperation.
