“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the sons of Egypt, the heroes of our national football team, on this historic achievement of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in the team’s history,” El-Sisi wrote on his official Facebook page.
The president said the Egyptian team has proven that faith in ability, competing with the true team spirit, and showing unwavering determination to win lead to great achievements.
“I wish you every success in the matches ahead, and God willing the journey of achievement and pride will continue,” President El-Sisi added.
Earlier on Friday, Egypt reached the World Cup round of 16 for the first time in their history after beating Australia 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in their round-of-32 clash in Dallas, extending the Pharaohs' dream run at the 2026 finals.
