Egypt to launch 7 steel-focused applied technology schools with Ezz Steel, Italy's Danieli

Egypt will launch seven Ezz Steel applied technology schools in Alexandria, Suez, and Menoufia in the 2026/2027 academic year under a tripartite partnership with Ezz Steel and Italy’s Danieli, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education said.

The schools, which will specialize in mechatronics and the steel industry, are part of the ministry’s wider plan to expand applied technology education through partnerships with the private sector and international institutions.

The ministry said the initiative aims to prepare qualified technical cadres with the technological and practical skills required by local and international labour markets, in line with the latest industrial and technical standards.

The seven schools include Al-Sadat and Menouf schools in Menoufia Governorate; Al-Salam, Al-Mostaqbal, and 24 October schools in Suez Governorate; and Al-Wardian and Moharam Bek schools in Alexandria Governorate.

The schools will adopt an education model that combines academic study with hands-on training inside a real industrial environment, the ministry said.

The partnership brings together the Ministry of Education, Ezz Steel, and Danieli, an Italian company specializing in the manufacture and supply of equipment and technology for the iron and steel industry.

According to the ministry, students enrolled in the schools will receive training under modern technical education systems and earn internationally recognized certificates that qualify them for the labour market.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to develop technical education and link it more closely to the needs of economic and industrial development.

The launch comes as Egypt continues to expand its Applied Technology Schools network, a model of public technical education that combines classroom learning with hands-on training in partnership with private companies, state bodies, and international institutions.

Applied Technology Schools follow international standards in teaching, curricula, and assessment.

They use a competency-based approach that integrates general education, technical specialisation, and practical training. Their programmes cover a wide range of fields, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, industrial automation, logistics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, engineering industries, textiles, and steel.

The model has expanded rapidly since its launch in 2018 as part of Egypt's broader efforts to reform technical education and better align graduates' skills with labour market needs.

By September 2025, nearly one million students were enrolled in 1,811 technical schools during the 2024/2025 academic year. The Applied Technology Schools network had expanded to 105 schools, with plans to convert an additional 1,270 schools into applied technology or dual-education institutions.

The latest Ezz Steel schools also fall within a broader Egypt-Italy technical education drive.

In November 2025, Egypt and Italy signed cooperation protocols to establish 89 new Applied Technology Schools in several specialisations. Egyptian partners include the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, other ministries, national bodies, private-sector companies, and Italian technical institutes.

The Ministry of Education announced that 26 Egyptian-Italian schools for applied agricultural technology across 14 governorates will start accepting students in the 2026/2027 academic year, in cooperation with Italy’s ITSAgro Academy and the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development.

The expansion reflects a wider government push to reposition technical education as a pathway to employment, higher education, and industrial development.

In June 2025, the Supreme Council of Universities approved allowing graduates of technical and applied technology schools specializing in computer and artificial intelligence technologies to apply to faculties of computer science and AI for the first time, a move described as a turning point in expanding higher education opportunities for vocational students.
