"We welcome with pleasure the announcement that the next round of talks between Israel and Lebanon mediated by the US will take place in Rome," Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on X.
A ministry spokesman said the talks would take place at the ambassador level on July 15 and 16.
This round of talks will be the sixth since spring between the two neighbours, which do not have diplomatic relations and are technically in a state of war.
The two countries and the United States signed a framework agreement last month aimed at "lasting peace", five days after the entry into force of a fragile ceasefire.
This framework agreement stipulates that the Lebanese army will restore its authority in the south of the country, subject to Hezbollah's disarmament, starting with "pilot zones" from which the Israeli army would withdraw.
The Israeli war on Lebanon erupted on March 2 with a large-scale Israeli bombing campaign and a ground offensive, while repeatedly calling for the evacuation of entire areas of southern Lebanon.
Since Israel reignited its war, it has killed at least 4,304 people, injured more than 12,203 others, and displaced over one million people, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
While more than 640,000 displaced Lebanese have since returned home, hundreds of thousands of others remain displaced due to Israel’s destruction of entire villages, alleys, and homes, in addition to its ongoing occupation of swathes of the south.
For their part, the mayors, mukhtars, and local leaders of 15 predominantly Christian villages in southern Lebanon have rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim on Fox News that they sought annexation by Israel.
In a joint statement reported by L’Orient Today, they called the allegation “completely fabricated,” saying they remain committed to Lebanon’s sovereignty and are “proud of their national identity.” Several of the villages remain isolated inside Israel’s occupation zone in southern Lebanon.
