Zaher’s remarks came during a press conference announcing the admission of new batches to the Egyptian Military Academy and military colleges.
According to Zaher, the academy and military colleges accept applicants training to become combat officers from among those who have obtained Thanaweya Amma (General Secondary Certificate), Al-Azhar secondary certificate, and equivalent qualifications.
He added that qualified applicants who hold Master's and PhD degrees can also apply to the Military Academy and military colleges, where they will train as specialist officers.
During the press conference, Zaher emphasized that an applicant's abilities, competence, and distinction are the only criteria for acceptance among thousands of candidates.
He said the Armed Forces are keen to select only the most qualified applicants after they pass all admission tests.
These tests, he noted, employ highly sophisticated technology that ensures the absence of human intervention and guarantees complete transparency.
Moreover, Zaher affirmed the Armed Forces’ General Command's commitment, under the leadership of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to actively participate in the Egyptian state’s vision to prepare generations with the qualifications and capabilities to assume leadership positions on the national level.
Launching Kayan University
During the conference, Director of the Egyptian Military Academy Major General Mohamed Salah El-Torky announced the admission of new batches to the academy and military colleges, as well as the launch of Kayan University of the Armed Forces for civilian students.
In his remarks, the Egyptian defence minister noted that the establishment of Kayan University of the Armed Forces for civilian students follows directives from President El-Sisi to create an educational environment that fosters innovation and creativity across various disciplines and prepares highly qualified Egyptian youth equipped with the latest scientific knowledge to contribute to the country's continued development and prosperity.
The conference also saw the announcement of the admission of new batches to the Armed Forces Health Institutes and Military Sports Schools.
Another announcement was made that Kayan University of the Armed Forces is accepting applications for its first civilian class for the October 2026 academic year.
Military admission requirements
Deputy directors of the Egyptian Military Academy, representing its military, naval, air, air defence, and technological colleges, reviewed the admission requirements alongside the directors of the Military Technical College and the Armed Forces College of Medicine, as well as the deans of Kayan University faculties.
Director of the Armed Forces Medical Services Department Major General Dr. Mohamed Saad Hegazy outlined the admission requirements for the Armed Forces Health Institutes. At the same time, the Head of the Armed Forces Sports Authority, Major General Mohamed Azazi Al-Assal, reviewed the admission criteria for the Military Sports Schools.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa; Minister of State for Information Diaa Rashwan; commanders of the Armed Forces' main branches; several senior military officials; public figures, media representatives, and cadets of the Egyptian Military Academy.
