Salah is currently a free agent after bringing down the curtain on a legendary spell with Premier League giants Liverpool at the end of last season.

On 24 March, the 34-year-old Pharaohs skipper confirmed his departure, bringing to a close nine years with the Reds in which he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances—placing him third on the club’s all-time list—and helped deliver multiple major trophies.

However, the report published on Friday night noted that a move to North America remains complicated despite potentially lucrative offers, as Saudi Pro League clubs continue to show fierce interest in securing Salah's services should he decide to end his European career this summer.

“Sources indicate Salah prefers to remain in Europe, but, as he mulls his options, he remains open to a move to MLS,” the Athletic report explained.

Earlier, ESPN reported that Saudi champions Al-Hilal are keen on landing Salah. Meanwhile, Sky Sports revealed that Jeddah-based Al-Ahli are also tracking the former Chelsea and AS Roma player as a potential successor to Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez.

Salah recently inspired the seven-time African champions, Egypt, to reach the Round of 16 at the World Cup for the first time in their history, bowing out after a thrilling 3-2 defeat against Argentina.

During the prestigious tournament in the USA, the iconic player found the net against New Zealand and provided assists against both Belgium and Argentina, cementing his status as Egypt’s all-time top scorer in World Cup history with three goals.

Throughout his glorious stint with Liverpool, Salah has won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League title, and the European Cup among nine trophies.
