According to Egypt's foreign ministry, the two ministers stressed the need to contain regional tensions and prevent actions that could further destabilise the Middle East.
The ministers also condemned Iran's repeated attacks on several Arab countries, including Gulf states and Jordan, saying such attacks violated state sovereignty and threatened regional security.
They underscored the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and rejected any attempt to restrict passage through international waterways, warning that disruptions would have consequences for global trade and energy security.
The two ministers also discussed regional diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, highlighting the role of the regional quartet comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan as a mechanism for consultation and coordination.
They exchanged views on developments in Sudan, Libya, and the Red Sea and agreed to continue close coordination on regional issues, according to the foreign ministry.
The call comes amid a sharp escalation in regional tensions, particularly between the US and Iran, despite the signed memorandum of understanding that was considered a constructive step towards ending the war in the Middle East.
