TikTok announced on Monday that it is rolling out new artificial intelligence (AI) transparency tools and educational resources across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), as digital platforms race to strengthen trust in AI-generated content amid the rapid expansion of the creator economy and AI-powered advertising.

The social media platform will introduce enhanced systems to detect AI-generated spam, expand the use of content authentication technologies and launch new AI literacy resources to help users identify AI-generated content.

The latest measures come as technology companies face growing pressure from regulators, advertisers, and content creators to improve transparency around AI-generated material, which is becoming increasingly prevalent across social media platforms.

TikTok said it will begin testing upgraded detection systems targeting accounts that primarily publish AI-generated spam, initially focusing on content related to politics and current affairs, financial advice and health information, where misleading content could have broader public and economic consequences.

The company said it removed over 86 million fake accounts worldwide during the first quarter of 2026 under its existing enforcement programme.

As part of its transparency efforts, TikTok said it has labelled more than three billion AI-generated videos using a combination of Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools, and digital watermarking technologies that indicate when content has been generated or substantially modified using AI.

The company also joined the Steering Committee of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), an industry body developing technical standards for identifying AI-generated and digitally altered content.

Alongside the new transparency measures, TikTok is expanding AI literacy initiatives through educational resources developed with the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and AI researcher Henry Ajder to help users better understand AI-generated content and the responsible use of AI tools.

The platform said educational content produced through partnerships with organisations including No Filtr and Raspberry Pi has attracted more than 200 million views since November 2025, adding that it has committed more than $4 million to AI literacy programmes.

TikTok also highlighted AI-powered creator tools, including Smart Split and AI Outline, and its Manage Topics feature, which allows users to adjust how much AI-generated content appears in their feeds.

The announcement reflects a broader industry push to establish common standards for AI-generated content as generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into digital media, online advertising and creator platforms.
