Born on 7 July 1985, Etman graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy in 2005 as part of the academy's 99th graduating class and serves in the infantry branch.
He holds a bachelor's degree in military sciences from the Egyptian Military Academy and a master's degree in military sciences from the Egyptian Command and General Staff College.
He also earned a Command and General Staff College diploma and a Master of Operational Studies in the United States after completing professional military education at the US Defense Language Institute.
Etman has completed a range of specialized military courses, including infantry career-development programmes, parachuting, advanced commando instruction, military observation, and combat training.
He also attended the US Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course and a combat trainer course in the United States.
In addition to his military education, Etman pursued pre-PhD studies in international relations at Cairo University's Faculty of Economics and Political Science and in business administration at Helwan University.
He also holds a diploma in human resources management from Helwan University and a diploma in Middle East regional studies from the United States.
Throughout his military career, Etman has served in various infantry command and operational positions. He also served as a liaison officer and military observer with the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in Sudan and worked as a lecturer at the Infantry Institute.
He participated in counterterrorism operations in North Sinai and took part in several overseas military missions and joint exercises in Italy, the United States, Spain, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain.
Etman has been awarded the Military Medal of Duty, Second Class, three times, as well as the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
He has also received commemorative medals marking the 25th anniversary of the Liberation of Sinai, the 25 January 2011 Revolution, the Infantry Branch's Diamond Jubilee, the 30 June 2013 Revolution, Comprehensive Operation Sinai, and the 50th anniversary of the October 1973 War victory.
He was awarded the UNAMID peacekeeping medal four times for his service in Darfur and also received a ceremonial sword from Italy.
