Fahmy, who succeeded Ahmed Aboul Gheit after being unanimously appointed to a five-year term, affirmed that the coming phase requires a comprehensive overhaul of joint Arab action mechanisms to improve its ability to respond to regional challenges. This includes, he said, adopting a proactive approach to crises and enhancing coordination among Arab states, in line with the transformations taking place in the international systems.

He said investing in Arab people, particularly youth and women, would be a key pillar of his vision, highlighting the role of technology and artificial intelligence in supporting development and strengthening Arab national security

He added that his priorities include establishing an Arab Centre of Excellence for Strategic Analysis and Early Warning, restructuring the League's General Secretariat and introducing a performance evaluation system based on efficiency and accountability.

On Palestine, Fahmy said the Palestinian cause would remain the central issue for the Arab world. He called for an end to Israel's war on Gaza, protection of civilians, increased humanitarian aid deliveries, and support for Palestinians' right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Asked by Ahram Online about the upcoming Arab-Russian summit and the League's relations with Russia, China, and the United States, Fahmy said the organization would pursue a policy of openness and balance rather than align itself with competing international blocs.

He said the League sought to strengthen partnerships with Russia, China, and the United States based on mutual interests and respect for state sovereignty, describing the Arab-Russian summit as an opportunity to expand political, economic, and development cooperation.

Fahmy said relations with major international powers should be based on balance and parity to protect Arab interests and strengthen the region's international standing. He added that Egyptian-Russian ties were an example of cooperation based on mutual interests and respect.

He also addressed the situations in Sudan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia, reiterating the League's support for political solutions that preserve the unity and sovereignty of Arab states and its rejection of foreign interference.

Responding to questions from journalists, Fahmy said the League would seek to strengthen preventive diplomacy, expand Arab economic cooperation and turn agreements into projects with tangible benefits for citizens. He described economic integration as a key pillar of regional security and stability.

He also said the League would seek to expand partnerships with international powers, particularly China, in the fields of economy, technology, and innovation while maintaining balanced relations that serve Arab interests.

Fahmy said the Arab League would adopt a more open approach towards the media based on transparency and regular communication with the Arab public.
