Egypt stressed that these acts constitute an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of the four states, a direct threat to their security and territorial integrity, and a dangerous escalation that risks widening regional tensions and instability.
Cairo reiterated its categorical rejection of any actions that undermine the security of Arab states or endanger their peoples and facilities, expressing its full solidarity with the four countries in confronting any threats to their security and stability.
Egypt also stressed the need for an immediate end to these attacks, respect for international law and the principles of good-neighbourliness, and de-escalation efforts.
On Sunday, the UK, France, and Germany condemned Iran’s attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as well as on Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan.
In a statement, the European Troika (E3) stressed that respect for sovereignty over territorial seas and freedom of navigation are fundamental principles of international law.
“We reaffirm our continued support for the swift and full resumption of international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and express full solidarity with our Gulf and regional partners,” the E3 stated, calling for the resumption of the ceasefire and US-Iran negotiations.
The Egyptian and European condemnations come after Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting several Gulf nations, including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, in addition to Jordan, in retaliation for renewed US strikes on Iranian military sites.
The renewed military escalation between Washington and Tehran erupted after the US accused the Islamic Republic of attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a central flashpoint in the renewed confrontation between the two countries. It also prompted the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Council (IRGC) to close the strait once more.
