The figures were reviewed during a meeting between Hatem El-Nawawy, head of the Export Development Fund (EDF) and acting head of the General Organization for Export and Import Control's export development arm, and the board of the Ready-Made Garments Export Council, chaired by Fadel Marzouk, which discussed measures to expand exports and increase the sector's competitiveness.
The ministry said it was working to strengthen export-oriented industries by increasing local value added and encouraging investment in supporting industries to reduce production costs and improve the competitiveness of Egyptian products.
The meeting also reviewed the sector's performance in 2025, when ready-made garment exports increased 20 percent to $3.394 billion from $2.846 billion a year earlier.
Officials said 21 companies had joined the Ready-Made Garments Export Council by early July, expanding the country's exporter base.
Discussions focused on increasing local manufacturing, improving rules of origin, and attracting investment in supporting industries as part of efforts to boost exports.
Marzouk said the council would continue working with the government to support exporters, expand into new markets, and attract additional investment.
Council Treasurer Alaa Arafa said the industry was targeting annual exports of $12 billion within five years by increasing the number of exporting companies, expanding domestic manufacturing and making greater use of Egypt's trade agreements.
