The Hurghada court sentenced the first defendant, identified as Ukrainian national Olena, to 10 years in prison. It acquitted a second Ukrainian defendant, identified as Pavlo.
Three Egyptian defendants, pharmacy owner Yasser Abdel Mobdy Abbas, pharmacy assistant Mahmoud Ayman Hosni Afifi, and pharmacy worker Mahmoud Abdel Rahman Mahmoud Abdo, were each sentenced to three years in prison.
According to prosecutors, the defendants formed an organized criminal group that manufactured narcotic substances, trafficked them within Egypt, and attempted to export them abroad.
The prosecution also accused the three Egyptian defendants of joining the criminal network while aware of its illegal objectives, possessing narcotic substances for trafficking, and participating in the attempted export of the drugs.
The defence said it would appeal the ruling before the Hurghada Criminal Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn the verdict and secure the acquittal of its clients.
The ruling is subject to appeal.
