The holiday applies to workers covered by Labour Law No. 14 of 2025, the Ministry of Labour said in a statement.
Employers may require staff to work that day when operational needs demand it. In such cases, employees are entitled to twice their daily wage in addition to their regular pay, or an alternative day off upon submitting a written request to be placed in their personnel file.
The decision implements Article 129 of the Labour Law, which grants workers paid leave on official holidays and occasions designated by the minister responsible for labour affairs.
The 23 July Revolution anniversary is listed as a fully paid public holiday under Labour Ministerial Decree No. 294 of 2025.
The ministry issued a circular to labour directorates nationwide instructing them to monitor compliance at workplaces and production sites and ensure workers receive their statutory rights.
Raddad also directed ministry officials and governorate labour directorates to inform employers and employees of the regulations and oversee their implementation.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had earlier declared Thursday a paid holiday for employees in ministries, government departments, public authorities, local administrative bodies, public-sector companies, and public business-sector companies.
Examinations scheduled for the day will proceed as planned by the relevant authorities.

The holiday marks the 74th anniversary of the 23 July 1952 Revolution, when the Free Officers Movement overthrew King Farouk and ended Egypt’s monarchy. Egypt was formally declared a republic in June 1953, with Mohamed Naguib becoming its first president.
Since 2020, Egypt has generally moved midweek public holidays to Thursdays to create longer weekends, except for major religious holidays and Coptic Christmas. This year, the anniversary itself falls on a Thursday.
