Supply Minister Sherif Farouk met Telecom Egypt executives on Monday to discuss proposals to upgrade the ministry's digital infrastructure and internal trade systems.
According to the ministry, the talks focused on implementing the Unified Card system, which is intended to streamline access to government services.
The two sides also discussed developing an electronic payment and direct debit system for Egypt's subsidized bread programme to digitize financial settlements between bakeries, mills, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) and other entities.
Officials said the proposed system is intended to improve efficiency, transparency, and financial oversight.
The meeting also covered digital support for the ministry's "Carry On" retail project, including connecting outlets through Telecom Egypt's network and providing communications and data management services as the project expands nationwide.
Farouk and Telecom Egypt also discussed digital infrastructure for Egypt's planned targeted cash subsidy programme, including electronic identity verification, database integration, secure data management and electronic payment systems.
Farouk said digital transformation was central to improving government services, strengthening oversight of subsidy programmes and modernizing the ministry's operations.
He said the ministry was upgrading its technological infrastructure and databases to improve service delivery and integration between digital platforms.
Telecom Egypt Managing Director and CEO Tamer El-Mahdi said the company would support the ministry's digital transformation projects through its telecommunications infrastructure and technical expertise.
The two sides agreed to continue technical consultations and prepare feasibility studies and implementation plans for the proposed projects.
